Blog Dia 11: Always a but...

A Big Day for Boas-Noitas (s'cuze the pun héhé),

Today Faro council sent 3 of the district's finest to inspect Monte-Bougainvillea. This visit is necessary to obtain our AL (Alojamento Local) License i.e. to right to rent out our apartments.

It's a costly process and sadly the vast majority of rental properties in the Algarve are undeclared.

So these 3 fine ladies, accompanied by our lawyer representative lady, proceeded to visit the property to ensure we meet a certain set of standards, mostly about security, but also about quality.

From fire extinguishers to first aid kits with an eye certifications, we were told. So me and my lady, Sylvie, we got informed and did everything we could think of including having the extinguishers controlled.

We really worked hard. We wanted to make sure we got a positive outcome. And we did. But with a twist.

Everyone was happy about everything and we even got compliments in broken French and English about how well we set up the place, but....

Something essential is missing. A clear plexiglas plate of nationally regulated dimension inscribed with the letters 'AL' fixed at the entry of the property. This is mandatory.

Not bad to fail on such a detail

The twist is that we are given 48 hours to comply or paid for a new, second visit. These visits ain't cheap.

So our ever so helpful Andreas from Veronica Picso's law firm made a phone call and our afternoon was set: Go buy an AL plexiglas plate to regulated dimensions and screw it on the wall. A simple picture is all that is required as proof. This is the picture. Done.

For us it is a proud moment as this license is a gage of an establishment's management. A reflection of it's quality and it's ethic's.

Worth it? Find out.

Hope to see you soon,

Sylvie & jc
