That is, for example, when you want to change the climate, whether (sic) it's the one over your head outside, blowing down your neck at work, or just generated by bad people sucking up your air. That's when a little climate change can be good.
Heading into the high season at Monte-Bougainvillea I can't help but smile. It's hot out here. Blue skies forever, glaring sun, warm air caressing the palm trees. We like to watch the European forecasts on TV. The weather is certainly bizarre in many places. Some historical records and extremes but nowhere the same old same old predictable weather, except the Algarve maybe?
It seems we are having what had been described to us as being normal weather in the Algarve. Last year was not normal, and everyone was describing to us what normal should be. It's pretty much what we've had so far this year: Great weather, blue skies, endless sunshine, bright stars. No rain. It's a problem... with benefits. I don't like rain, but I admit the 3-4 days we've had this year are clearly insufficient. We love the sun but we also know it takes at least some rain to grow the grapes with which they make wines that would make the french blush (if they only knew...well kept secret).
For us personally there is a little irony in having 'changed our climate'. We decided to make the permanent move here, to change our lives, to get away from the 'heat of the race' and closer to the heat of the sun. And we can't help but think this is also making a little contribution to the wider issue somehow I'm just not sure how to describe it right now. Our lives in general are less conductive to mass consumption and waste. It's hotter but we are way more cool. Being surrounded by good people helps.
Our heat has changed indeed. Now our only stress is to deliver the best possible experience at great value for our guests. 'Only' is a small word here that summarizes a lot of work, coordination, communication, commitment and professionalism. We changed climate but not who we are. As everything we've ever done seems to have been to prepare us for what we do here. We now make a bed and prepare an apartment with as much dedication and professionalism as we might have in our past 'office' jobs. The difference is the love.
