Blog Dia 48: Good-Night Boas-Noites The Road to Retirement has no Cars

It was sometime in 2015, sitting in front of my computer, thinking about what we might do when I retired, hoping that would be around age 60. That was ten years ahead of time, but to help pass the time away I started looking at options. A blue sky approach full of what ifs' and how abouts' with blue sky and palm trees as the only non negotiable parts.

This quickly led to the realisation that there was no need to wait for retirement. We could move south to Portugal almost immediately, build a business with our home and work there. We would obviously earn less, but we need a whole lot less living in an idyllic holiday destination year round. All in all our living standards would dramatically change for the better.

We would be under the blue sky in a beautiful villa surrounded by palm trees 10 years sooner than planned. We could continue to earn a living from our villa while living in it. So we called it Project Bom Dia in 2016, bought the villa in 2017 and we did it. We opened Monte-Bougainvillea in 2018.

Now nearly 10 years have gone by. Soon we will truly be 60, and we will truly retire. Best of all, we are already where we want to be when we do. Being retired means no longer needing a job obviously. For us however this then also means no longer needing to own Monte-Bougainvillea.

So, we are selling the Villa. It's on the market at a price that considers only the property and makes the business a give away.

Sylvie and I both enjoy very much what we do here. The success we've enjoyed is beyond any expectations we ever had and the guest feedback is sincerely goosebump heart warming. Of all my career and working years, these have been the happiest.

So we will keep Monte-Bougainvillea running, as we do, 'til we sell.

This is a special Villa with an exceptional business attached. It may take a while to find buyers. The place can pay for itself for a couple with some capital and an eagerness for their own employment. If our story has appeal to you, maybe this is your opportunity! Just get in touch, we can talk

In the meantime we will also do our best to position Monte-Bougainvillea so that any future owner who wishes to maintain the business can enjoy immediate success. Because that's how we've always done business.

Nevertheless we also need to consider a future owner who may just want the property, without the business. To this end we will streamline our business scope.

In more concrete terms this means we will be ending the cars and transfer service in order to focus purely on the hospitality aspect.

As of today, bookings with arrivals after the 14th of October 2024 will no longer include cars and transfers. We think this makes sense since rental car prices have come down rapidly recently, our cars are getting older, less comfortable, more expensive to maintain, and we do not intend to replace them. So while the convenience is undeniable, the value of the car service is not as obvious as it once was. The date is chosen because it is the last date at which a car is booked. So no worry, no one is losing anything already booked.

But one obvious advantage of no longer having cars is to eliminate costs, meaning we can reduce our prices.

And that is what we will do.

So there it is, a whole lot (sic) of good deals!

The villa is for sale, the business up for grabs, the cars will soon be sold cheap, and our prices will be going down across the board.

No matter from what angle you read this, there is a good deal for anyone, book a holiday, buy a house, a business or even cars!

More options than ever before at Monte-Bougainvillea:

Book NOW to Rent, or to BUY!

Hope to see you soon
